Rocket science - 9.5.07

A half a pound today makes 11.5 pounds gone in 5 days. Yesterday was the first day when I felt like I was grinding this out a little, but I did very well with it. I was hungry more than I had been in the previous days, yet I wasn’t craving any particular kinds of foods. I dealt with the hunger by eating some healthy snacks through the day: a nectarine before dinner, fresh strawberries and blueberries with soy milk, and two eggs with wheat toast cooked in egg-in-a-birds-nest fashion.

All of the other signs tell me that I am thriving with this: high energy level, no gastrointestinal distress besides the occasional gurgle, waking up ready to go in the morning, healthy bowel functions.

So, onward!

In the next few days I’ll talk a little bit about some recent approaches I have taken to losing weight. But I should probably say here what may have already been obvious. I’m not on any particular diet.

All I am trying to do is limit my calorie intake, eat a healthy and balanced mix of foods, and get proper daily exercise. Figuring out the definitions of “healthy and balanced mix of foods” and “proper daily exercise” is not rocket science.

The first thing I did was to find out the equilibrium calorie intake, if that is the right phrase, for my body. Then I divided by 2 for no particular reason, but with the expectation that I would change the figure if it wasn’t working. It seems to be working.

Concerning exercise, I am doing a little walking and a little jogging each day. I’m trying to do a little more each day, but yesterday my back felt a little stiff (which it often does) and I was busy work-wise, so I backed off from an hour to 40 minutes.

So far, it is all working. I will continue to pay close attention, and to write things down and consider changes when they seem advisable.
