Burrito heaven - 9.10.2007

Hmm. I was up until 1:20 this morning finishing a copywriting assignment on deadline. 25 pages of web content for a company called Tax Tiger that has an extremely impressive record of going to bat for people who owe a ton of money to the IRS and need to negotiate or, to be more precise, to make an “Offer in Compromise.”

As I wipe away the cobwebs I note three results of my having stayed up so late. (1:20 in the morning is not late when you are 25, but it is late when you are 57. I like to hit the pillow at 11 and get up about 6).

Results of being up so late:

  1. I finished my assignment.
  2. I’m a little grumpy, but this will pass after I have fed my coffee addiction.
  3. My scale says I gained a half a pound, back up to 259.5.

I am happy to blame this last news item on my having stayed up so late, for several reasons.

  1. My daily log from yesterday says I only consumed 1393 calories, which is my lowest daily intake in the entire 10-day history of Big Man Getting Smaller, so I am not going to blame the fact that I gained a few ounces for the first time in 10 days on having eaten too much.
  2. I was drinking coffee later than I usually do, and I am probably wearing a few extra ounces of water weight as a result. (I have a very good friend, who shall go nameless here, who would be popping water retention pills like candy when faced with a situation like this. I can’t do that. Because I’m a guy. It’s bad enough I am writing about my body every day!)
  3. I can’t blame my scale, because it would be expensive to replace, and I am a cheap bastard.

See, I told you was I was grumpy this morning.

Actually, the grumpiness has passed already, and cheeriness is taking over.

So I will go on here to say that I am excited about a new restaurant I am going to try, probably for lunch. I took my walk yesterday in Davis Square and picked up a sandwich at Subway, which was fine.

Next door is a place called BoLoco, which is a burrito chain. I feel badly already, because ordinarily I do try to stay away from chains, or at least patronize indie businesses as much as I can. That being said, in this current phase of Big Man Getting Smaller I am drawn to any restaurant that can tell me what I am eating in terms of ingredients, calorie counts, and other arcane factoids. This is very helpful when it comes to sticking to my 1750-calorie a day limit, and equally so when it comes to recording that info in this log. It is a feature that one tends to find with chains rather than indie restaurants.

Like every other 250-pound guy who is worth his sodium, I love Mexican food, burritos, chalupas, enchiladas, fajitas, etc. I could eat Mexican food three meals a day, at least until I exploded.

But today I am going to order a designer burrito from BoLoco after checking out the calorie count at BoLoco.com. I’ll let you know how it goes.

Topics dredged up from today’s entry and perhaps worthy of future discussion:

  1. Coffee addiction
  2. 3-day average
  3. Keeping regular hours
  4. Compulsive weighing disorder

G’day, mates!
